Come Join US for community day on the 1st july!
What to Expect
Join us for a day of creativity, conversation and shared experience as we gather around art, food and community at The Auxiliary. Rooted in the spirit of the Common Ground project; a community food-growing and artmaking programme. This special Community Day invites people of all ages to come together across a programme of activity, performance and reflection.
Foraging For Stories workshop
Foraging For Stories is an exploratory workshop inviting young people to connect with nature through words, sound, and sensory experience. Guided along a sensory trail, participants will respond to creative prompts, experiment with writing, and take part in deep listening activities using microphones.
Alia Gargum Spoken word Performance
When I Think About Libya / عندما أفكر في ليبيا A spoken word piece by the artist developed by translating her colloquial Libyan Arabic into English and back, serving as a testament to memory and identity through language and culture as it fades and changes after displacement.
Common Ground Sound Exhibition
Common Ground Sound has been developed during the Common Ground programme in collaboration with participants from across Middlesbrough. Recordings made at Saturday sessions, Creative Community Meals and at special events with the Creative Minds group at Newport Community Hub, have been co-created into two sound pieces. Firstly, the story of Common Ground, a community food growing initiative being developed at The Auxiliary, and secondly, food stories developed by the women of Creative Minds with Teesside storyteller Rumana Yasmine. Sound artist Nell Catchpole has worked across Common Ground Sound capturing the sounds, stories and ideas of the Middlesbrough Community.
