  • All of the events at SAW are free.

    Although we don’t require ticket on entry, some of our events may have limited capacity so we recommend you grab your free ticket to one of our events.

    See below for more information on where to get tickets.

  • All of the events throughout SAW range from child-friendly workshops to family entertainment performances and installations.

    If you are interested in our child-friendly event programme take a loot at Summat For the Bairns where you can find more information about the family-friendly events and creative workshops we have to offer! 

    Please note that signage will be included should an event be deemed non-suitable for children. We also ask that all children under the age of 16 should be accompanied by an adult at each of our venues.

  • Middlesbrough is perfectly positioned between the North Yorkshire Moors and County Durham. SAW is set across Middlesbrough town centre in the heart of the Tees Valley, and boasts a variety of great transportation links to the rest of the UK. 

    Most of our SAW venues are less than a 10 minute walk from the Rail Station. You can access taxis via the Taxi Rank outside via the accessible entrance/exit onto Bridge Street West. 


    Walking

    Most of our SAW venues are less than 10 minutes from the Rail Station with a walkable distance between each site. To find out more information about walking routes through the festival see our SAW Map here

    Train 

    Middlesbrough Rail Station is located in the Historic Quarter and connects to the whole of the UK. Managed by Transpennine Express it provides reliable and convenient transport into the town with direct links to Manchester. For those travelling further afield, cities like Edinburgh or London can be reached by connecting trains at Darlington.  Once you get here, most of our exhibition venues are within walking distance.

    The entrance from Exchange Place has steps, but there are lifts available to provide level access from both platforms. 

    Bus & Coach

    Taking the Coach? Middlesbrough Bus station has connections to all corners of the UK so you don’t have to worry if you’re going the distance.

    You can reach Middlesbrough by bus from towns and cities across the Tees Valley and the North East. Middlesbrough Bus Station is located in the centre of town on Newport Road and is also served by a taxi rank directly outside. Visit Connect Tees Valley to plan your journey by bus

    Cycling

    For those avid Cyclists it’s quick and easy to cycle between our venues and sites, Middlesbrough has an ever expanding cycling network with 89 km of cycle friendly infrastructure and numerous facilities catering to the needs of cyclists. To plan your Route you can also find your Route Map Planner here

    Taxis 

    Middlesbrough has a variety of reliable Taxi companies and friendly drivers. To book a taxi call 01642 222 222 or you can book your trip with the Boro Cars app.
