Ooon Lowther

Cellist Oona Lowther is a young artist whose musical life is born through the curation, collaboration, and performance of Contemporary Music. Playing music by living composers and creating programmes that stretch the sounds and techniques of the cello into the modern day is at the heart of her artistic practice. Recent collaborations with composers include Brett Dean, Judith Weird, Bara Gislasottir, Anna Meredith and Hannah Kendall. She completed both her BMus(Hons) and MA as a scholar at the Royal Academy of Music under Josephine Knight. she was awarded a Diploma (DipRAM) with her MA graduation for scoring over 95% in her final recital, a programme of wholly Contemporary Music. She works with many of London’s leading, Contemporary musicians as both a soloist and chamber musician. As an Art Mentor Lucerne Scholar with the Riot Ensemble, Oona had the opportunity to perform with them as a soloist, playing the world premiere of Alex Papp’s ’Deformed Images’, a Dup Concerto for Piano and Cello, recorded and later played on BBC Radio 3’s ”New Music Show. In 2024 Oona was a Southbank Future Artist in a Young Artists Programme with the Manchester Collective, enjoying her debut at Southbank’s Purcell Roo
